It was a travel-heavy week filled with $7 oil changes and free accommodations! Pair that with a new book, some new games and – hopefully – some new eBay sales, and it was a money-saving week indeed. Here’s how we fared here at Chez Recessionista.
1. I used Ford Points to pay for an oil change!
The first time I took my beloved Bronco Sport to the dealer for an oil change, I committed an error and did not tell the cashier I wanted to use my Ford Points, thereby paying out of pocket! Well, reader, I have never made that mistake again. Last week I took the ol’ Bronc back in for an oil change and used up the remainder of my collected points, which meant my bill was $7.17. I’ll take it! (And now that the points are gone and I’m paying for them out of pocket again, I will go back to my regular mechanic for oil changes, as he charges less than the dealership.)
2. I attended my company’s annual meeting, enjoying free meals and hotel.
Every year, the company I work for hosts an annual meeting for several days, generally out of town, so I enjoyed the luxury of a complementary hotel room and delicious meals during my two-night stay! Now, we did a lot of work, and learning, and bonding, so it wasn’t a vacation per se, but said work/learning/bonding is always most enjoyed at a beautiful resort. :)
3. A friend gave me a new book!
Speaking of the annual meeting, one of my dear friends who is also a colleague traveled in by air for the event, and en route she finished a book she knew I’d love. So instead of lugging it back across the country, she left it with me! And as you know, I am a voracious bookworm, so this was the best gift I could possibly receive.
4. I scored two new games via our Buy Nothing group.
A lady in my Buy Nothing group started a new games-and-puzzles round robin – a crate of items that makes its way through interested members of the group and people can add or remove as they like. I put two puzzles in and then promptly swiped two new games, which I can’t wait to play when friends come over next!
5. I listed two more items on eBay.
On the heels of a lucrative eBay week, I listed a new handbag and a new pair of shoes, both of which are generating some interest already. My vacation account is ready for some more sales!
What frugalities have you achieved this week? Let’s hear it in the comments!
