Meal breakdowns will begin again tomorrow, but in the meantime, here’s how we spent our Labor Day weekend.
First, I nearly burned down the back yard with a malfunctioning torch. One moment, things were going as planned; the next, I looked up to find the entire torch in flames, quickly burning up a nearby bush. I got it extinguished eventually, but suffice it to say, I don’t think I’ll be using the torches again anytime soon.
Then, on Saturday, we went to Great Country Farms to pick potatoes and eat pancakes. We harvested about 15 pounds – for $6.50! If we’re lucky, they’ll last until Christmas.
We used the first few potatoes straightaway in a cookout:
And, on Labor Day proper, invited some friends over for some Florida State football … and some chili, salad (they brought a fruit salad which was divine, and LeeLee made a lettuce-based salad to go along as well), and football-snacking food. It all seemed to go down smoothly.
And autumn was brought in properly with … some Guadalajaran quesadillas with Swiss chard. And rice.
Which brings us up to the present. A good, long weekend, leading directly into a nice, short workweek. Can’t beat that!
